Seachtain na Gaeilge

Date:                        4 – 17 March 2013

Venue:                   Ireland and around the world

Description:

Seachtain na Gaeilge is an international Irish-language festival promoting the use of Irish language and culture, both at home and abroad, running over a fortnight in March every year. Conradh na Gaeilge established the organisation in 1902. The festival has built up incredible momentum in recent years, becoming the largest celebration of our native language and culture held in Ireland every year and sweeping other countries up in the whirlwind along the way.

The festival gives absolutely everyone a chance to enjoy the Irish language, be they native Irish speakers, language learners or those with only a few words. Organisations, local councils, schools, libraries, music, sporting and cultural bodies all register their Seachtain na Gaeilge events with the head office and this year’s festival runs from 4 – 17 March 2013 as part of the year-long Bliain na Gaeilge Irish celebrations and The Gathering 2013. www.snag.ie

Ceiliúradh Cainte (Day of Speaking Irish)

Date:                        Wednesday, 17 April 2013

Time:                       All day

Venue:                   Ireland and around the world

Description:

We are looking for people, especially school students, to undertake the challenge of speaking in Irish only for a whole day for charity! Those who take up the challenge will do so for 12 hours: at home, at school, in shops and businesses, around the town, with friends, at sports training or at the youth club etc!

Why should you take part:

  • A great way to raise money for charity!
  • You receive a great support pack, t-shirt and resources such as Fiche Frása (Twenty Phrases) to help you through the challenge.
  • There’s no greater way to practice Irish than to speak it for 12 full hours! Especially if you are preparing for an Irish exam soon!
  • You don’t need to be fluent to take part as you’ll be given phrases to help you through the day; and if you are fluent, you can still take part by getting the people around to speak Irish with you for the day
  • It’s an opportunity for you and your workplace / school / community to take part in a national campaign.
  • It’s an opportunity for you to use Irish outside your Irish class – you’ll be surprised by the amount of Irish that people all around you have.
  • It’s always good to set yourself a new challenge!
  • So set yourself this challenge & take part on the 17th April!
